Mixed Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2000 Server Environment

In a mixed Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2000 Server environment, the Active Directory Connections object must contain the correct Access Control List (ACL). To provide the correct ACL, run the setup /forestprep command. For additional information about how to do so, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
Environment with Only Exchange 2000 Server

In an environment with only Exchange 2000 Server, re-create the missing Active Directory Connections object in the Active Directory:
- Start Adsiedit.exe.
NOTE: Adsiedit.exe is available on the Windows 2000 installation CD-ROM as one of the Support Tools. To install the Support Tools, run Setup.exe in the Support\Tools folder, and then follow the instructions on the screen.
- Double-click Configuration Container, double-click CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=com, and then double-click CN=Services.
- Right-click CN=Microsoft Exchange, point to New, and then click Object.
- In the Select a class box, click container, and then click Next.
- Type Active Directory Connections in the Value box, click Next, and then click Finish.
- Verify that the Active Directory Connections object has been created in the CN=Microsoft Exchange container.
