INTRODUCTION
This document has for objective to answer
customer queries when installing a new Windows 2008 SP2 Server and
wanting to know what are Microsoft Support recommendations with regards
to deploying POST-SP2 hotfixes in order to prevent major and critical
known issues.
This document provides the list of recommended updates categorized by server role.
The list is divided in 3 parts:
•
P0
updates: these are critical because they resolve problems like memory
or disk corruption, data loss and server unavailability.
•
P1
updates: these are important. They are grouped by server role (File
Server, Terminal Server, Cluster…); they resolve performance problems
and were key in closing Severity A incidents.
•
P2 updates: these are useful because they introduce new features and have been heavily downloaded by customers.
•
The new recommended updates appear in red in this document.
1. Overview
The RFL (Reference Fix List) is divided in several lists, by server role:
•
The list « SERVER RFL » is recommended for all types of servers.
•
The following « SERVER ROLE RFL » are currently available:
•
CLUSTERSERVER
•
PRINTSERVER
•
TERMINALSERVER
•
DOMAINS (DOMAIN_CONTROLLER and DOMAIN_MEMBER)
•
The general list « SERVER RFL » includes the following sub lists:
•
CORE OS
•
STORAGE & FILE SYSTEM
•
NETWORK
•
DOMAIN MEMBER
Usage: for a specific server, the RFL must be aggregated by server role, for instance:
•
For a cluster: SERVER RFL and CLUSTERSERVER RFL
•
For a print server: SERVER RFL and CLUSTERSERVER RFL and PRINTSERVER RFL
Note :
The RFL (Reference Fix List) is a list of recommendations. Therefore,
customers must verify that these updates apply to their environment to
determine if the related driver, service or component is currently
installed or not. Customers may contact Microsoft Support for additional
assistance.
