The PlateSpin Value Proposition
- Protect multiple servers using a single virtual recovery machine
- Use your excess virtual server capacity as an affordable DR platform
- Perform full and incremental backups without taking servers offline
- Match workload and resources for an optimal recovery environment
- Reduce downtime compared to imaging or tape backups
- Run DR “fire drills” to test restore times and disaster readiness
The
PlateSpin PowerSolution for Disaster Recovery revolutionizes business
continuity by removing the need for costly one-to-one hardware and
software redundancy to protect data center server assets. With
PlateSpin, production servers can be backed up to virtual machines at a
fraction of the cost of traditional disaster recovery solutions, and
can be recovered more rapidly and with greater ease. By helping
organizations achieve superior recovery speed and reliability at an
affordable price, the PlateSpin PowerSolution puts enterprise-class
disaster recovery within reach for organizations of all sizes.
What’s in the Box?
PlateSpin PowerRecon
PowerRecon provides advanced capacity planning capabilities that allow
you to discover and inventory your entire IT environment, rapidly
identify the server workloads you wish to protect and automatically
generate an optimal disaster recovery plan.
PlateSpin PowerConvert
PowerConvert receives recovery jobs from PowerRecon and automatically
performs full system and incremental backups by transferring data,
applications and operating systems to any virtual or physical recovery
machine without taking servers offline.
How It Works
1. Plan
Automatically scan and inventory production environments and rapidly
generate optimal disaster recovery plans using PowerRecon. Build enough
headroom into your recovery environment to ensure sufficient capacity
for a disaster.
2. Backup
PlateSpin PowerConvert performs a full system backup by transferring
server workload to the recovery machine. Following the initial backup,
PowerConvert’s Live Transfer functionality captures source system
changes and performs incremental updates to sync production and
recovery servers.
3. Failover
Should
your production server fail, you can rapidly initiate a system failover
in which the virtual recovery machine will start up within minutes –
just reconnect sessions and the virtual recovery environment takes over
the production workload.
4. Restore
Once
your production system is repaired, systems can be restored
automatically to their original host by performing a
Virtual-to-Physical (V2P) migration, or continue to run in their
virtualized state.
The PlateSpin Value Proposition
- Protect servers at a fraction of the cost with flexible image capture
- Full support for third-party imaging technologies
- Backup and recover servers with complete hardware independence
- Enable rapid Image-to-Virtual (I2V) or Image-to-Physical (I2P) recovery
- Meet recovery time and point objectives (RTO and RPO)
PlateSpin’s flexible infrastructure restore capabilities enable
hardware-independent recovery at a significantly lower cost than
traditional backup or clustering technologies.
With PlateSpin’s PowerSolution for Disaster Recovery,
organizations can completely replicate a server by scheduling the
capture and conversion of a server to a hardware-independent PlateSpin
Flexible Image.
PlateSpin Flexible Images can be
captured without taking critical production servers offline and rapidly
redeployed to any physical or virtual machine. In addition to PlateSpin
Flexible Images, PlateSpin’s disaster recovery solution leverages
existing investments in third-party imaging technologies by deploying
these images in the same hardware-independent manner.

The PlateSpin Value Proposition
- Backup more servers for less using blades
- Hardware-independent backup and recovery
- Backup systems onto blades as images or virtual machines
- Protect multiple servers using a single virtual recovery machine
- Protect data center assets with minimal upfront investment
The
high cost of traditional disaster recovery solutions often means that
organizations can only afford to protect their most critical systems.
The
PlateSpin PowerSolution for Disaster Recovery allows organizations to
affordably extend server continuity and disaster recovery capabilities
to the full range of servers in their environment – not just the most
critical ones.
Use PlateSpin to cost-effectively backup
systems onto blade servers either as images or virtual machines that
are ready to be rapidly deployed should the primary production server
fail.
------------
The PlateSpin Value Proposition
- Minimize the time and effort required to upgrade servers
- Drag and drop data and applications between old and new servers
- Rapidly provision servers without building systems from scratch
- Increase resource utilization by retiring legacy systems
Data
center staff spends considerable time and effort dealing with machines
that are nearing the end of their life or lease. The challenge of
migrating key applications from old to new infrastructures such as
blades is significant – so much so that some companies continue to
maintain old and inefficient servers rather than upgrade their hardware.
The
traditional approach to hardware migrations involves building the new
system from scratch by reinstalling the OS, applications and data. Not
only is this process time-consuming and costly, but organizations also
run the risk of lost data or business disruption.
With
PlateSpin PowerConvert, organizations can stream the server software
layer including data, applications and operating systems from the old
end-of-lease machine to the new server using a simple drag-and-drop
interface. Any changes to operating systems needed to adapt to the new
hardware are made automatically on-the-fly.
